5 Hair Styling Tips You Should Try Out ASAP

Are you frustrated with your same old hairstyle? Try out these 5 simple hair styling tips for a whole new you in no time.

We all wish we could wake up looking like we just stepped out of the salon. However, great hair days tend to be a once in a while thing. You probably already have an established hair care routine: wash, condition, rinse, repeat.

If you're reading this, it is time to step up your game.

Whether you are trying to keep on-trend, switch up your daily style, or add the finishing touches to an outfit, these 5 hair styling tips and tricks ones you will want to try.

  1. Dry Shampoo Is Your Friend, Use It

In case you didn't already know, you should not wash your hair every day. It is recommended you use shampoo on your hair every 2 or 3 days. Those with very oily hair or who sweat a lot should wash their hair more often but otherwise, daily shampooing can damage your scalp.

Dry shampoo is a water-free shampoo that comes in an aerosol can or a paste. It works to absorb excess oils, called sebum, from the roots of your hair and gets rid of the limp, stringy look of unwashed hair. It is a great option for all hair types to use in between washings to give your hair a just-washed look.

It not only adds volume and body to unwashed hair, but you can use it to style your hair as well. By using a wide-tooth comb, hairdryer, and dry shampoo, you can create tousled, beachy waves, or a neat updo.

To use dry shampoo, lean forward and hand your hair down. Spray or apply the dry shampoo at the roots. Stand up straight and again and use the hairdryer and comb to give your hair the volume and body you want.

  1. Ditch the Elastic Hair Ties

Putting your hair up in a ponytail or messy bun is another foolproof way to style your hair between showers or washings. However, you shouldn't be using elastic hair ties. Elastic hair ties can cause damage to the hair at the shaft when you wrap it tightly around a ponytail.

Elastic hair ties pull on your hair and cause unwanted breakage. One way you can tell if you are pulling a hair tie too tight is if you are left with impressions in your hair or develop headaches, especially at the temples.

A better way to tie up your hair is to use a hair scrunchie. Hair scrunchies, especially ones made of soft materials like silk, let you avoid the breakage and kinks ordinary elastic hair ties cause.

  1. Wavy Hair Overnight

Using a flat iron or curling iron should not be an everyday practice. If you have naturally pin-straight hair, it might be tempting to use chemical treatments or different types of curling iron additions to get curly or wavy hair. But don't sleep on this one trick.

Actually, do sleep on it! To get beachy waves, take damp hair, part it down the middle, and braid it into two equal french braids before you go to bed. If your hair dries quickly, you can mist your hair during the braiding process or after you are done.

In the morning when you undo the braid, the final product should be (almost) effortless waves. You can use hairspray to make sure the style stays all day.

  1. A Bigger, Better Bun

This is a quick and easy updo you can do with the items you likely already have at your disposal: a sock, a pair of scissors, a hair tie, and some bobby pins. For this hairstyle, start by putting your hair up in a high ponytail and take your sock and scissors.

Cut off the toe part of the sock and roll it into a donut shape. Put the donut shape around the base of your ponytail and slide it toward the ends of your hair. From here you will tuck your ends under the donut and roll it down the ponytail down to the base.

It is a little difficult to get an even roll at first, especially if you have long, thick hair, but as the saying goes, practice makes perfect.

  1. Try Something New

The COVID-19 pandemic affects everyone in different ways. Some people take on different projects, such as knitting or gardening, but others take a different DIY approach. Have you thought about trying out a new hairstyle while social distancing?

You shouldn't pick up the scissors and start cutting away with reckless abandon. Start with something easier. If you are really bold, you can try coloring your hair at home.

While box hair dye is not necessarily a favorite among professional hairstylists, you can try experimenting with semi-permanent hair dye like Manic Panic that doesn't contain unnecessary chemicals. The hair dye comes in colors from black to grey, to green and pink, and everything in between.

If you aren't so bold or are not quite ready to commit to a bright new hair color, you can try dip-dyeing your hair with Kool-Aid or using hair chalk for a temporary color transformation.

It's Time to Change It up

There is no better time to change up your hairstyle and try these hair styling tips. Whether you want a whole new look or need a go-to look hairdo in between washings, you should try these styles.
