For holidaymakers looking to immerse themselves in nature, and to experience the occasional adrenaline rush, there are few parts of the world that can rival Fethiye. This small corner of Turkey offers plenty of scope for an active holiday – and there’s an impressive depth of culture to explore, too.
There are a number of amazing experiences to be enjoyed here. You might book a stay in the impressive Jiva Beach Resort, on Çalış beach; which is a great place from which to enjoy the adjacent lagoon. The region as a whole, however, offers a number of additional things to see and do.
Paragliding Over the Blue Lagoon
The Babadağ mountain is among the most prominent peaks in the area – and from the top, you’ll be able to not only enjoy the view of the surrounding countryside, including the tantalising blue water that sits on either side of the Ölüdeniz beach resort, but also paraglide over the top of it all. Best of all, you don’t need any experience in the air to sign up for this once-in-a-lifetime thrill ride.
Hiking the Lycian Way and Exploring Ancient Ruins
Part of the appeal of this section of the Turkish Riviera is the abundance of quality hiking trails running through it. Among the more impressive of these is the famous Lycian Way, which stretches over 470 miles from nearby Hisarönü to Konyaaltı. Along the way, you’ll get the opportunity to delve into ancient rock tombs, and to visit the notorious ghost town of Kayaköy. You’ll need some level of hiking experience (as well as a decent pair of boots) to really get the most from the trail – but don’t feel that you have to see all of it!
Diving, Sailing, and Hidden Coves
While you’re in this section of the country, you’ll have access to an enviable selection of underwater treasures – including adventures in the sea, and in fresh water, too. There’s scuba diving in Butterfly Valley, as well as sailing on the 12-Island route. The islands include the Gocek, Flat, Pig, Katranci, and Red Islands, and between them live an array of dazzling species, including dolphins, flying fish, and sea turtles.
There’s something for just about everyone. If you’re looking to spend a few hours in quiet solitude, you might chart a course to one of the ‘secret’ beaches and coves that other tourists miss out on.
